Today the world celebrates father’s day and most of us think that fathers do not care whether you remembered to give them a card or not—but they actually care.
New research shows that the level of sensitiveness of men is much higher than women. But what makes it not so obvious is men are good in
hiding their emotions. That’s why most of us think that men are tough and they
seem to have no emotions at all.
The Royal mail asked Mindlab to conduct a test that will
check different emotional levels of men in comparison with women. 15 fathers
and 15 mothers are involved in the test where they are hooked to electrodes.
The result shows that the male creates a stronger reactions to emotive materials
like the one they called “heart-warming”.
Despite the attempt to hide its emotions, men are really more
sensitive to the entire emotional stimuli than women.
This is already proven by Mindlab neurologist where they
asked two group of volunteers to watch a series of videos while a skin
conductance electrodes are used to check their physiological responses. The
content they watch includes different topic such as blissful, funny, exciting
and heart-warming. Experts were shocked to find out that men shows marginally
stronger reaction on average to all the categories. Therefore men responded
twice than the women.
This only proves that our old perception about
fathers is wrong. The experiment opens a new perspective of seeing men
themselves and who they really are.
After the
test they were asked how the videos make them feel and most women said that
they felt more emotional compared to men even the physiological indications
said men were more emotional.
Dr. David Lewis, neuropsychologist and director of
Mindlab who is a former lecturer at the University of Susses said that the way
Gender is stereotyped like men being stoic and women being emotional are only
reinforced by human’s day to day living and effect of media and social interactions.
This is now the time to see Gender in a wider aspect
because it is only us who make things more complicated.
