THE 17th City Council's proposal has passed the first reading proposing for an ordinance that will stop the buy and sell of butane within the metropolis.
Resolution No. 54 series of 2014 was submitted by the barangay council of Governor Paciano Bangoy, Agdao that banned such chemical in the whole village.
Based on the drugs-forum.com, this colorless gas or butane is hazardous and can be used as an inhalant among the addicts that cause dissociation and hallucinations-- almost a similar effects as using drugs.
The proposal stated that butane is fatal and may cause death though ill-considered/dangerous administration fatal arrhythmia through its action on the heart or respiratory arrest through CNS depression from an over-dose. Although it has no known action of cell toxicity, there exists a link with selective thalamic sequelae (brain damage) and chronic butane (ab)use. (sunstar.com.ph)
It was also discovered that the usage of butane increased the fire related incident in different barangays in the city. It is commonly used by students who stayed in boarding house and other small families who cannot afford to buy LPG in big tanks. It is a portable table-top stoves and much easier to use when camping.
This is available now in neighborhood sari-sari stores in a much lower price. But the problem is they recycled the non-refillable cans of butane and sell it for P25.00 from its original price of P74.00 which is much safety because it is explosion proof.
