Google recently launched a beta version of Google Glass last April in which a pair, costing $1500, can only be acquired through a special invite or if a friend turned-down their invite and passes it on to you. Surprisingly, there is little excitement in the market for Glass.

If this was the case, Google Glass has now opened its doors to anyone and everyone in the U.S. who wants the product as long as they can afford the price.

So...What is it?

Google Glass is your stylish, wearable computer that has an optical head-mounted display (OHMD). This was developed by Google in the attempt to mass-market an innovation in pervasive computer technology.

Look ma, no hands!

Voice-operated, Google Glass is prompted by voice commands from the wearer. Information is displayed through the lens that at first glance, looks like a normal pair of reading glasses. The interface is reminiscent to that of a smartphone; only it has a hands-free format. Communication is via internet availability.

Google and Fashion

Google has paired up with Italian eyewear company Luxottica, owners of Oakley and Ray-Ban, to offer another set of frame designs. Google offers four stylish frames for $225.00 U.S. a pair. A small screw must be removed when interchanging these frames.

Beta Version

Launched under the “Explorer Program,” Google Glass is only available in its Beta version, which means this is a test project. Google is still testing the waters with this contraption as product development for Google Glass cost them excessively much money. “We’re still in the Explorer Program while we continue to improve our hardware and software, but starting today anyone in the US can buy the Glass Explorer Edition, as long as we have it on hand,” a statement from Google.
