Davao City Mayor Rodgrigo Duterter received a call from President Aquino himself discussing about a possible terrorist threat in the south. A militant bomber who initially thought to be dead but actually alive is suspected to bring threats around the city. Mayor Duterte said that the President was very much concerned about the threat by Abdul Basit Usman. Aside from this information, Mayor Duterte refused to give further comment.

According to the intelligence community, Usman is connected to the Abu Sayyaf and he is considered as a big threat in the security of the south knowing that he is an expert bomb-maker.

Janauary 4, 2010, Usman was reported to have been killed by an American drone attack near the South and North Waziristan tribal regions in the Afghanistan.

Usman is a big threat  to US and Filipino citizens and interests according to US authorities and he who actually had a $1-million bounty.

The militant, believed to have caused several bombings, is reportedly training Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters bandits on bomb-making.

Aquino’s call prompted Duterte to call for an emergency command conference of all police and military units in the city to tackle the terrorist threat.

Duterte ordered both police and military units to increase security alert and take all measures to thwart any such threats.

He also ordered the police and the Army-led Task Force Davao to monitor the movements of people and vehicles getting in and out of the city.

He added that more security personnel will be deployed and more checkpoints will be put up in strategic areas in the city.
