DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte confirmed its signing of contract last Monday. This project is in accordance to memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea Engineering and Construction (KEC) for the conduct of a light railway study in the city.
The MOU assures that the Korean company will do feasibility study in the city to construct a light railway to minimize the congestion of traffic here.
The KEC deals engineering businesses related to road and highway, structure and bridge, tunnel and Geotechnicia, water resources, railway, urban planning and supervision, landscape architecture planning, and construction management business.
Based on the power point presentation of the KEC yesterday, the main line will travel 13.6 kilometers passing through systematic roads in the city. Chae Kwon II, chief researcher of the KEC, said it will start its feasibility study by September this year.
However, Duterte said the city will still review the offer of the KEC. Mayor Duterte proposed to send two engineers in Korea before the launching in September.
He added that they will still continue to study all the other factors that they have to consider before the project will be launched including environmental effects.
Kwon said they have no estimates yet on the project. But once they started the study, they will figure out how much will be the total cost of the project.
